Books and newsy bits

A (very) short round-up of books received and some other stuff I’ve been involved in of late. First up, a great couple of books that were a part of my childhood, as they were for thousands of others:

The Weirdstone of Brisingamen, by Alan Garner (HarperCollinsChildren’sBooks) (yet to be received)

The Moon of Gomrath, by Alan Garner (HarperCollinsChildren’sBooks)

This year is rather special for The Weirdstone, as it is celebrating the 50th anniversary of its publication in 1960. A special hardback edition of this much-loved book (which, incidentally, has never been out of print) is being published, with a new, rather attractive cover and a new foreword by Alan himself, who still lives nearly Alderley Edge in Cheshire, where the book is set. The paperback editions of both books also feature new celtic knotwork-inspired covers, which look absolutely fabulous.

Also due to be received is:

The Technician, by Neal Asher (Tor UK)

In other news, my latest review, of Jeremy C. Shipp’s wonderful Fungus of the Heart collection (Raw Dog Screaming Press), has now been posted over at Beyond Fiction. Over at Dark Fiction Review, meanwhile, is my interview with Gav Thorpe, author of countless Warhammer/Black Library books and also one of the latest Angry Robot Books releases, The Crown of the Blood.

Take the afternoon off, and have a peruse!!
